The giver

The cover is made up of two subjects: the apples and the map in the background. Apples have been chosen as main subjects since red is the first color the protagonist can see, the red of an apple. The apple in the foreground represents Jonas (the protagonist). Apples in gray are the other inhabitants of the community, deprived of the ability to see colors and feel emotions.

Only two gray apples have been chosen as, more precisely, they represent the two friends, Fiona and Asher, who, despite not possessing the gift of "seeing beyond" trust their friend and help him escape. Furthermore, in the first apple there is a mysterious element, a hole.

In fact Jonas, every morning, uses an apple as a ploy to avoid the mandatory injection that inhibits feelings, emotions, sensations and colors.

Finally, the background is a reconstruction of the map, with all the obstacles and hostile places he crosses to reach the "gates of memory" and give back to the inhabitants of the community what injections took them away, what makes them human: feelings. Here is the original photographic image.
